Greetings! My name is Michelle Preciado and I am thrilled to be joining the staff at St. George this 2021-2022 school year as the Jr. High English Language Arts teacher. Although I am new to the school, I’m very familiar with Catholic education as I spent my childhood attending St. Margaret Mary school from K-8th grade, Pomona Catholic high school, as well as teaching at St. Theresa school in Palm Springs last year. 

Growing up, my parents fostered my love of reading at a very early age. Books were a part of my daily life. Knowing that I wanted to be a writer, I attended U.C. Riverside in the Fall 2004, earning my B.A in English with a concentration in British Literature and a minor in Creative Writing. During my college years I took an interest in poetry and published a short piece in a literary magazine. My enthusiasm for learning soon followed me to graduate school where I earned my M.F.A. in Writing Popular Fiction. I’m currently pursuing publication for my thesis, a young adult novel entitled, “Crossed.”

Aside from my love of literature, I enjoy hiking, running, binging shows on Netflix, and spending time with my dog, Bella.

About Language Arts

6th, 7th, and 8th grade Language Arts all focus on building the skills in writing, reading, vocabulary and grammar. In 6th grade, students will work on reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing strategies. 7th grade students will write narrative essays, argumentative essays, and will read a variety of short stories, as well as fiction and nonfiction excerpts. In 8th grade, students will write narrative essays, argumentative research essays, and will also read a variety of fiction and nonfiction literature. While all three classes will focus on written expression as well as reading, 8th grade Language Arts will have an emphasis on literary analysis, to better prepare the students for high school.
