My name is Jenn Ross and I am excited to join the Jr. High team beginning this 2022 - 2023 school year to provide additional support to the math program! Outside of the math periods, I will continue to work in the Resource Program under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Murguia providing personalized support to struggling students.
Academically and professionally, I have always had a special interest in marginalized youth and those labeled as at-risk. After studying criminology at Cal State San Marcos, I worked first at Eli Home, Inc. in Anaheim, a shelter for abused and neglected children and their mothers to heal and learn life and interpersonal skills, and then at Boys Republic, Inc. in Chino Hills, a rehabilitative group home facility for incarcerated youth (and of Steve McQueen fame). I was drawn to education as a means of reaching marginalized youth at an earlier age to instill a love of learning and foster positive social attachments. I am passionate about social and educational justice and strive to be an advocate for the diverse needs of every student.
In addition to being a teacher, I am a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a wife, and a friend. My husband and I first got engaged in 2019 at ComicCon...in cosplay...yes, we're THOSE nerds. We married in a very COVID-era ceremony in August of 2021 performed by a lifelong friend at the home of my parents. This year we've purchased our first home together up in the mountains. The commute may be tiring some days, but it gives me time to unwind with music or audiobooks, and on either end of the journey I have a job to arrive at which I am excited and passionate about, and a home surrounded by the peaceful presence of nature. All in all, I count myself blessed.
I enjoy reading and napping...I'm basically a cat. As such, I love the parish cats...and my cat...and your cat... But I also turn into a baby-talking Dolittle when I see any dog. I'll be that car pulled over when I see a dog running in the road trying to coax them out of harm's way with sweet baby calls.
I believe in the universal language of kindness and the golden rule. Through kindness and compassion, I aim to help each student grow and progress towards their full potential.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay kind.
