About The Teacher

"And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive"

Matthew 1:21-22

My name is Sara Martinez, and I have the joy of teaching 5th grade. I have been honored to serve at our school since 2000 in various roles. I attended Cal Poly Pomona and later earned my dual degree in Liberal Studies and Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino. Currently, I hold a Master’s degree in Teaching with an emphasis on Best Practices from National University. I was also a member of the University of Notre Dame STEM Teaching Fellows program and obtained an Instructional Leadership in Catholic Education certification from Loyola Marymount University.

In addition to my work as an educator, I am a proud parent of two young adults. My daughter, Alitzah, attended SGS, Pomona Catholic High School, and received her Master’s of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Grand Canyon University. She is now building her career at City of Hope Hospital. My son, Mark, also attended SGS and graduated from Damien High School. He is currently a sophomore at Northwestern University in Evanston. I am truly blessed with a hardworking husband who supports all my pursuits in life.

As your child’s teacher, I want to assure you that their education and well-being are my top priorities. I have attended numerous professional development workshops to strengthen my teaching strategies, including Differentiated Instruction, Pedagogy of Questioning, Curriculum Mapping, Active Shooter First Aid Training, Autism Awareness, Step Up to Writing, and STAR Assessment training, among others. In past years, I also served on a WCEA/WASC Accreditation Committee.

I hold a current California Elementary Catechist Catholic School Certificate and PMFP certification. Beyond my classroom responsibilities, I serve as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer as a lector at St. George Church.

My ultimate goal as an educator is to nurture independent learners who develop a love for learning and grow to reach their fullest potential.
